Research

Ongoing Lab Projects

Our research examines how the social worlds adolescents navigate, including their families, neighborhoods, and peer networks, shape the developing brain and body. We also develop the methods needed to study these complex relationships.

Methodological Development

NIRSPipe

A BIDS App for fNIRS: preprocessing, postprocessing, hyperscanning, and quality control

NIRSPipe is an open-source BIDS App for fNIRS data, led by Qiuyu Yu, a graduate student in the CONNECT Lab. It integrates preprocessing, postprocessing, hyperscanning analysis, and quality control into a single reproducible pipeline that any lab can run with one command. We welcome inquiries from potential collaborators and are happy to offer educational workshops to anyone interested.

Naturalistic Interactions

Sync-A-Thon

In collaboration with Dr. Ka I Ip (University of Minnesota), this project used an intensive longitudinal design to understand the stability and change of interpersonal neural synchrony during various task conditions (video gaming, watching videos, and everyday conversation).

Status: Active data collection

Secondary Data Analysis

Neighborhood, Brain, and Health

Drawing on the ABCD and Add Health datasets, we integrate self-reported and geocoded measures of neighborhood context to examine the dynamic relationships between youth and their environments and how these interactions shape brain development, health, and well-being from adolescence into adulthood.
